The Difference Between TN, HTN, STN, FSTN, DSTN,CSTN and TFT
LCD refers to Liquid crystal display, which is a general term for liquid crystal display technology. It contains TN, STN, DSTN, TFT these technologies, that is, TN, STN, DSTN, TFT are different classifications of liquid crystal display. The difference between them lies in the arrangement of liquid crystals, the torsion angle, and the electrical aspect.
The structure of TN, HTN, STN, FSTN, DSTN, and CSTN is basically the same.
TN is generally 90 degrees twisted,
HTN is 90~120 degree twist,
STN is 180~270 degree twist,
FSTN, DSTN, CSTN are all STNs, just because the appearance of ordinary STN is generally yellow-green or blue, while the appearance of FSTN and DSTN is black or white.
FSTN is an STN (Film compensated STN) with thin film compensation.
DSTN is a dual-STN structure to achieve black and white display.
CSTN is generally an FSTN structure with a color filter diaphragm structure to achieve color display.
TN products belong to the LCM (LCD Module) product category, the main advantages are low power consumption and abundant product display data.
HTN (High Twisted Nematic) nematic liquid crystal molecules are sandwiched between two pieces of transparent glass, and between the two layers of glass, the orientation of the liquid crystal molecules is deflected by 110~130 degrees. This type of LCD is characterized by high contrast, low power consumption, low driving voltage, and poor dynamic driving performance, but the viewing angle is wider than that of the TN type.
STN (Super Twisted Nematic) is an electric field that changes the arrangement of liquid crystal molecules that are originally twisted by more than 180 degrees to change the optical rotation state, and the electric field changes the electric field by progressive scanning. It has the advantage of low power consumption and has the biggest advantage of saving power.
The display principle of CSTN is to add a color filter to the traditional monochrome STN liquid crystal display, and divide each pixel in the monochrome display matrix into three sub-pixels, and display the three primary colors of red, green and blue through the color filter respectively, and the color picture can be displayed. Unlike TFT, STN is a passive passive type of LCD, which can display up to 65,536 colors.
FSTN (Film+STN), in order to improve the background color of ordinary STN, a layer of compensation film is added to the polarizer to eliminate chromatic dispersion and achieve black and white display. CSTN (Color STN), color STN, on the basis of FSTN technology, adds a layer of RGB color film to achieve color display, and the number of driving channels is generally higher. DSTN (Double STN), a double-layer STN, in which one layer is used as the driving layer and the other layer is used as the compensation layer, belongs to STN black and white technology, compared with FSTN, the contrast ratio is higher, and it can compensate for the dispersion with temperature by itself, to achieve high contrast over a wide temperature range.
VA panel is now a type of panel with more high-end LCD applications, and it belongs to a wide viewing angle panel. Compared with TN panels, 8bit panels can provide 16.7M color and large viewing angles are the capital of this type of panel positioning high-end, but the price is also more expensive than TN panels, VA panels can be divided into MVA panels led by Fujitsu and PVA panels developed by Samsung, of which the latter is the inheritance and improvement of the former. VA-like panels have the highest contrast on the front (face up), but the uniformity of the screen is not good enough, and color drift tends to occur. Sharp text is its killer feature, and the black and white contrast ratio is quite high.
